I bought this book at the recommendation of one of my former nursing instructors. The author is one of her colleagues. I started it this morning and had read it cover to cover by early afternoon. It is a courageous memoir of the author’s difficult life and his path to recovery and success. I loved it and could not put it down. Kuddos to him for overcoming his difficult childhood and breaking free from the bonds of addiction.

IF you want to truly understand why people get into drugs and alcohol, why jail seems like a good choice, read this book. If you want to understand how people get OUT of that cycle, read this book. If you want to understand the power of God in the terms of a Heavenly Father and in the guise of loving individuals along the way, read this book. Great story and three cheers to you, Anthony Brown!

i met Anthony about 3 years ago, so i have heard some of his story. The book told me the whole story of what it was like, what happened, and what he is like today. I'm proud to say that I'm his friend. I'm proud of all the work he has done to get where he is today, And i applaud his love of life and sobriety and his desire to help others. The descriptive narrative of the book is fascinating, I felt like taking a tour of Ohio suburbs! The description of places along with feelings and emotions felt by the author are beyond expectations.

Inspirational story of a broken man who defies all odds. Anthony Brown is a truely exceptional man who now inspires others and works to end homelessness from the perspective of one who knows best the challenges and obsticles which make it so difficult to escape. Great book about an old acquaintance and his story. I knew A.B. ( never knew his name was Anthony Brown) in the mid 80’s for a couple years. A life story that marks a journey that encapsulates all that loss, addiction and recovery can inform. Beautifully and truthfully open is this story that offers hope and redemption. A must read describing this amazing journey.

I highly recommend this book. My favorite quote “ Finding God is an interesting concept, because He is never lost. I was lost and had to discover a way to realize that He was still there.”

Really great book!

What a powerful message and I personally believe... this is the root of humanity. There are limitless possibilities when someone has faith in you. Anthony didn't have the luxury of someone believing in him at a young age and battled domestic violence inside his childhood home. Many would have "thrown in the towel" and Anthony did just that by escaping with substance abuse. He was homeless for 23 years and spiraled down a dark path of destruction until... one person had compassion for him enough to change his life course. The obstacles he faced due to his subconscious demons was an uphill climb but the efforts he made came back ten fold. This is definitely a self-help book because many are able to apply this to any addiction. Whether you are in a toxic relationship, have a gambling addiction etc. everyone deserves a chance at a better life and sometimes in order to create that for yourself, you need to accept the help around you. Anthony's story is an inspiration.

From the cover alone I knew the author was going to invite me into a transforming place, "why am I here?" Chapter 1 should be a question for everyone. Sir Anthony draws you into his dark world and didn't fail to carry you up into his light. It is good to give back and help another.
